This past week is what I'm going to call Fixer Upper Week. Ok, so Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday were more Fixer Upper themed, but whatever. Haha :) Anyways, Tuesday, I watched the new episode of Fixer Upper like I do every Tuesday night. Then, on Wednesday we went down to the West Bottoms and went to Restoration Emporium. Restoration Emporium is honestly my new favorite store (It's literally like the Magnolia Market of Kansas City!). We walked around there for awhile since the store is literally 3 STORIES! I ended up buying a KC shirt which Joanna has the same one of (Sorry not Sorry haha).
Here's Joanna wearing the same shirt I bought
Then came Saturday aka one of the BEST days ever! So I got up at 4 am because honestly this day was up there for being a best day. Demo day is THE best day, Christmas is a close second, and Chip and JoJo at the KC home show is third (If you watch Fixer Upper, you'll know that Chip's two favorite days of the year are Demo Day and Christmas). Anyways, I went ahead and did my hair and make up and realized it was only 5:30 when I was done and realized I was up wayyyyy too early, so I went back to my room and layed in bed and watched some Fixer Upper while I waited for it to become a little more reasonable time. At about 6:30 or 7:00, I got out of bed and finished getting ready. We left the house around 8:30 and headed Downtown.
Brandon and I in the car!
Once we got to the convention center after parking and all that fun stuff, we saw how long the GA line was and I was really concerned the VIP line would be just as long, but Brandon and I ended up being 3rd in line.

So we waited until about 10 when the doors opened and then we imediately got sent to the area for the VIP show. Brandon and I were Lucky enough to get front row seats. We then sat through a presentation from Jennifer Allwood. She literally paints anything and everything. After her, we got blessed with entertainment by Jen Bertrand who was the winner of HGTV's Design Star Season 3. She was actually just the announcer, but we were all just sitting there waiting for noon and so she decided to do a Q&A and just have fun. About 30 minutes before Chip and JoJo were supposed to come on, Darrel RodRock of RodRock homes came on stage to talk about his foundation that helps Foster Kids. He talked for about 10 minutes and then introduced Chip and JoJo, but they were still down on the first floor and the staff hadn't really planned very well. So, there was another short Q&A and then they announced Chip and JoJo!
My first reaction and thoughts haha
They shared their testimony and some stories about how they met, started their business, etc. one of my favorite parts was when they showed some Chip bloopers. At one point they were showing one where JoJo was playing the drums and chip was dancing and right there on stage, Chip started dancing right next to Jo and she was totally clueless until she turned and jumped and then kinda ran away from him. Everyone was laughing so hard.
After that, they were sharing some stories. One of my favorites (because this would totally happen to me) happened right after they got married. So Jo's parents paid for them to go to New York on their Honeymoon and while there, they were living up like the Kardashians (Chips words... Not mine haha). Anyways, when they got back to Waco, they were going to be staying in one of Chip's fixer uppers. Joanna figured he had already fixed it up and had gotten electricity and water turned on, but in typical Chip fashion, he hadn't thought that much ahead. So,he carries Joanna over the threshold into this nasty house. Turns out Chip had been renting it out to some Baylor athletes who left all their food and trash. They had also had dogs that obviously hadn't been taken outside enough. So the house was a mess, totally stunk, and had no electricity or water in the middle of July. So Chip tells Jo that they are going to rough it and it'll be ok. So, they set some blankets on the floor and went to bed. Well, at about 3 that morning, Jo starts hitting Chip because she is done. She told him she couldn't breathe and she wanted out of there. She decided they should go stay in Chip's parents RV which was full of all their (Chip and Jo's) belongings. So they go and get in the RV and Chip says he knows where a nice RV park is so they drive to this RV park that is next door to a cemetery. So they are headed into this park and Chip sees a shortcut that has a little dip in it. He starts to drive through the shortcut and when he reaches the dip, he ends up getting the RV stuck each bumper on the higher part of this dip so when he hits the gas, the tires are just spinning. So he sees they're not very far from an outlet and is just yanking on the chord to be able to plug it in. The next day, they go to back to the house to start working on it. At one point, they are painting and Chip says something and it made JoJo really mad and she picks up the 5 gallon bucket of primer and slams it to the ground. The force from her slamming it causes it to splash and her whole face gets covered in primer. At this point, Chip tells us in the Gaines family when something like that happens, you forget about the argument and start laughing. But in the Stevens (Jojo's maiden name) family, laughing causes the argument to reach a new level. So Chip is laughing because Jo is covered in head to toe with primer and this sets Jo off so she starts kicking at him.
Chip imitating JoJo kicking
I absolutely loved that story because that's something that would totally happen to me. They told a lot of other great stories. A couple of them are going to be in their new book which is coming out in October. They then showed another video which we were the first people to see which was their video that ended up getting them their show. After a little while, Jen (the anouncer) had everybody stand up and turn around to take selfies with Chip and JoJo. The homeshow staff wasn't allowing a meet and greet and so Jen came up with the next best thing. I took a bunch of selfies and then decided to change it to video. Well, JoJo must have realized I was on video because she literally waved to my camera!
JoJo waving!!
To finish off, they did a Q&A session and then a trivia session for some Magnolia Swag. After the VIP session, I really wanted to say something to Chip and I started to, but staff was forcing Chip and Jo to leave even though they really didn't want to.
We ended up leaving to head home soon after because it was starting to get really crowded. Once I got home, I tweeted Chip and Jo but since they were doing the public show, they didn't see it. So I tweeted it again yesterday.
My tweet to Chip and JoJo
The note I attached to the tweet
Not long after I tweeted it, a glass guy from Waco who works with Chip and Jo retweeted and favorited it. This then got the attention of Rob Zimmerman who's the Co-executive producer of Fixer Upper and he retweeted it. Well, this morning, my mom saw Chip was online and she quote retweeted my tweet and told Chip to look at it. So I wake up to see a tweet from Chip in my notifications.
Chip's response to my tweet!!
This weekend was honestly life changing for me. I honestly woke up Sunday morning and thought I love Chip and Jo more than One Direction. Then I imediately thought did I really just think that?!? But, I then realized I did think that and that I really meant it. It felt really good to realize that. I really love the example Chip and JoJo set. They are honestly no different on TV than they are in real life. They are really nice and honestly if you didn't know who they were, you would never guess that they are famous.
Ok, so I know this post is already freakishly long, but I wanted to give everyone an update. So Sunday morning I woke up around 5:30 with severe pain in my left shoulder. I went back to sleep figuring it was just from me sleeping wrong. I knew it was muscular and not anything super bad. Anyways, around 8, I woke up in tears because my arm hurt so bad. I took some ibuprofen and about 20 minutes later there was a loud pop and everything was fine. But 20 minutes later it was still hurting. The rest of my day was spent dealing with pain and my shoulder popping every time it moved. This morning, my mom called my physical therapist. He was really concerned and totally confused at the same time so he asked me to come in. So, I got to go to an emergency PT appointment. He massaged my muscles and had me do some simple stretches. He then explained to me that my muscles are EXTREMELY tight. My shoulder blade muscles are so that they aren't moving which is causing my rotator cuff muscles to do all the work. Well, they've been doing the work for so long that they're just done and that's why I'm dealing with so much pain. So now they're working to loosen those muscles because (this is what it sounded like) every time I move my arm, my shoulder slightly dislocates causing everything to grind together. So, they're loosening it to then stabilize it. So I'm pretty much a hot mess, but we're working to get everything normal. :)
